Good morning, San Diego.

A quiet battle is unfolding in San Diego’s downtown — over food carts and their enforcement.

The Gaslamp Quarter Association, along with other critics, is calling on the city to immediately and consistently enforce a no-vending zone in the heart of the district. They say unlicensed and unauthorized vendors present multiple risks to the health and safety of people who buy their food, as well as blocking sidewalks and forcing people to walk in the street. Read all about it in this well-reported story from our Drew Sitton.

And if you’re looking for something to do later in the month, consider heading to the El Cajon Elks Lodge on the 26th for a fundraiser for a student who needs reliable transportation. But he’s not just any student – but you’ll see what I mean in my story about the charming Yonan Matti, who communicates and makes art using just eye movements. Yonan is holding a fundraiser and silent auction for “one life-changing van” so he can get to medical and social appointments.
