Today one community organization will be rallying at the Organ Pavilion to spread a message the majority of San Diegans are on board with: Repeal the Balboa Park parking fees.

A new poll of 500 residents showed that 80% of respondents think parking should be free or the current fees are too high.

We’ve heard you all as well. From the responses we’ve gotten to this newsletter and different open letters sent to our news desk, the fees are frustrating many folks. So, you might be 1/7 relieved to hear, the Rules Committee over at San Diego City Hall will review a proposal next Wednesday to make parking free on Sundays.

They’ll either decide to send a proposal to the council for a vote or pass it on as a citizen’s initiative.

In other city hall happenings, a small group of citizen activists barricaded themselves in Mayor Todd Gloria’s office yesterday. They demanded that Gloria meet with them — you might recall, hecklers at the State of the City shouted similar demands to meet with the mayor — to discuss the city’s strategy to protect San Diegans from volatile ICE enforcement.
