Hello, Uptown!

What a week it’s been for movie and television lovers everywhere.

As streaming services continue to battle over Warner Bros, increasing their monthly costs and playing more ads than I can stomach per episode of “The Bear,” I find myself logging out of my ex-best friend’s brother’s streaming account and searching for a new type of entertainment.

Lucky for us who live in San Diego and want to trade binge watching for a wholesome alternative that reignites our will to leave our homes, our city’s historic theaters and music venues offer in-person entertainment this Holiday season.

In North Park, The Observatory’s winter season line-up cannot be missed by hard rock lovers, metalheads or anyone looking to dust off their leather jackets and head over for a night of live music.

For a romantic date night, head over to Adams Avenue Theatre in the heart of Normal Heights. This historic movie theatre now operates as a music venue and currently offers the opportunity to listen to The Beatles like never before: Performed by a full string assembly under candlelight.

They also feature a Jazz Band that transports its audience to the New Orleans music scene if you want to escape California for an hour or two.

But if you want to escape straight into a scene from a 1960’s film, you cannot miss Lou Lou’s Jungle Room. Featuring a different live band every week, offering Latin Jazz fusions and Christmas holiday specials, this unique little venue in North Park makes for an unforgettable night.

So, step away from your tiny TV screen this December and give yourself the opportunity to experience art in our city along with friends, loved ones, or strangers that may just become that!
