Hello, Navajo and College Area!
While Autism Acceptance Month is coming to a close, the team at Casa de Mosaic reminds us that autism acceptance is an around-the-clock necessity.
This summer, Casa de Mosaic in Rolando Village will be celebrating three years of helping adults with autism and the greater Rolando community.
âEveryone’s impacted by autism in some way, in their family or friends,â said Casa de Mosaic founder Diana Figueroa.â⊠And I think we bring so much to the community between all the cleanups that we do and the partnerships that we have.”
Casa de Mosaic currently partners with various businesses and community centers in the neighborhood, including the Copley-Price Family YMCA, Rolando Elementary, Barlando and the College-Rolando Library.
Here, each participant learns various life and work skills, including how to cook, clean and use public transportation, with health and well-being at the forefront.
On Tuesdays, Figueroa plans a big day-trip outing. In the past, the team has gone to the San Diego Zoo, on pontoon rides in Mission Bay and kayaking. This week, the team headed to SeaWorld.
âThat’s kind of where I’m still doing a lot of the behind the scenes, getting the ingredients for lunches and making sure we have transportation and planning and buying tickets,â Figureoa said. âJust making everything go smoothly so when the group goes there, it’s calm. So we just try to keep everything kind of calm and peaceful and enjoy our day.â
