Hello, Pacific and Mission Beach!

Tessa Balc here, I’m filling in for Ashlyn this week.

I have my thoughts on the current state of wellness culture. I’ll give it to you straight: It’s excessive.

Take a walk down the food and drink aisles of a store. All of a sudden, everything is labeled “high-protein.” Tortillas are labeled GLP-1 friendly; even GT’s kombucha has protein in its juice drinks now.

The barrage of “get skinny/healthy fast with no effort” marketing is, to put it lightly, overwhelming. As a specific aspect of health turns into a trend, we forget the whole picture. Too much protein, not enough fiber.

But stay with me here when I say an event this Sunday at FitSocial piqued my interest. Mostly because it seems to incorporate the full picture. Cold plunges and DJ-sets don’t typically go hand-in-hand, but I guess they do in Pacific Beach.

Brought to you by the folks behind SantaCon, (like I said, balance, people) RENEW is a full-day affair where you can take workout classes, participate in beach games or find your inner peace (or doze off) at a sound bath.

It’s basically a choose-your-own adventure for healthy activities closed out by a sunset concert close by the water.

Fit will have quite a bit of programming available throughout the day from hip-hop dance class to a HIIT workout. There will be many other activations to choose from throughout the day like SALTVAULT pilates, Reach Yoga flows or Volo Sports fun.

Food and drink will be available onsite, and a variety of bevs are part of the partner activations. Wanting to replenish all the electrolytes you sweat out in the sauna? LMNT will keep you hydrated. Need a boost of energy? Bloom will be there. Want a buzz? Boochcraft has hard kombucha.

GA tickets are selling for $55 and VIP is going for $95. The extra $40 gets you access to an elevated VIP stage, and you’ll get to go to VIP only bars and bathrooms.

Remember: It’s all about balance.

By Mark Nero • Times of San Diego

Renew, which takes place on Aug. 2 in Mission Beach, is a daylong wellness retreat of sorts, where attendees can focus on good, clean living.
