Peninsula Beacon weekly update

Today’s newsletter is presented by addressSD.com.

Hello, people of the Peninsula!

Tessa Balc

We’re well into that time of the year where, in order to see the sun before noon, you have to leave the Peninsula. I do love that marine layer though; I’ll admit it puts me in a “wintery” mood. But, because the sun not shining isn’t out of the ordinary in the morning, it might be good to mention there’s a storm on the horizon today. So, do you what you have to do. It doesn’t hurt to fill a few sandbags.

If you have decided to hunker down at home in anticipation of the rain — and the imminent chaos it will likely bring to regularly scheduled events — we have a great roundup of local news this week to keep your mind occupied.

The opposition to affordable, high-density housing is organizing, and they’re starting in Point Loma. The group — which has yet to come up with a name, though some would refer to them as NIMBYs — are trying to create a coalition across San Diego neighborhoods to push back against state and local policies that advocate for higher-density housing.

It’s not surprising that the people of the Peninsula are wary of new developments. We all know OB wants to stay stuck in the ’60s.

In more NIMBY/YIMBY news: The city might do away with the historical designations afforded to the OB Cottage Emerging Historic District. This is a strategy being used across San Diego to streamline more housing development.

As a PSA: If you were planning on attending the San Diego Made Holiday Market, it’s been postponed. Same time, same place, but now it’s on Nov. 29 and 30.
