Good morning, San Diego.
Business isn’t just about making money and networking. It’s about allies and peers too. We all need them.
That’s where Business for Good comes in. The group, which started just a few years ago, aims to counter more conservative-leaning business organizations by giving progressive business owners a voice in the public arena.
Business for Good already has made its presence felt in San Diego. Members threw their weight behind last year’s successful push to boost the minimum wage for hospitality workers; one said she liked the group’s backing of a styrofoam ban. The entrepreneur called it “doing something concrete on the ground.”
Another example of that action? Hosting “Know Your Rights” events for employers and community members as ICE raids took hold.
Our Drew Sitton talked with BFG leaders as they held a summit this month for business owners and allies. One topic? How to craft public comments to be shared at government meetings held by commissions, councils and boards. Drew has more on how Business for Good began, its growing pains and plans for the future.
Speaking of ICE, you may be seeing masked officers at San Diego’s airport in just a couple of days. President Trump on Saturday proposed assigning the controversial agency to U.S. airports as the standoff over Homeland Security funding continues. He said in a social media post, “ICE is ready to go on Monday.” Stay tuned …
