Benefits of being outside

Well, I hope you all weathered the weekend storms just fine. Don’t be fooled by the momentary patches of sunshine — we’ve still got some more rain on the way.

I think we get sunshine here so often, we forget to soak in it as much as we can or don’t realize how much we do. I tend to think of myself as a homebody, but the rain really reminded me how I like to spend my free time outside, walking around the neighborhood.

After being deprived of sunshine last Saturday and having spent the whole day recharging inside, I spent my Sunday outside in the grass. Though I’m sure there are many studies scientifically proving that being in nature is immeasurably good for our physical and mental health, I think I can verify that after a day full of fresh air. Fittingly, we have a story about the San Carlos community garden leaning into the health benefits of nature, and how it is developing a space for mental wellness.

You won’t be hearing from me next week, I’ll be pounding down some bourbon pecan pie with my grandma. For the sake of the holiday, I hope you’ll be doing the same. We’ll see you in two weeks; Happy Thanksgiving.
