If you’ve been keeping up with development news in San Diego, you might have heard of Chalcifica. It’s a project with plans that include six three-story buildings and 70 parking spaces among a Pacific Beach neighborhood of primarily single-family and military housing.
Last month, a California Superior Court judge granted a preliminary injunction after a group of neighbors banded together to sue the city and developer.
Recent NIMBY uno-reverse cards have included arguments spanning from height limits to historical designations. For this particular case, Neighbors for a Better Pacific Beach argue the city got ahead of itself in approving the project, without properly weighing the environmental risks and neglecting to consult the Kumeyaay tribe over historically significant land.
In statewide news, Governor Newsom’s 2026-27 budget released Friday revealed an additional $22 million in funding for TK-12 and community colleges. The inflated final sum is thanks to tax revenue from artificial intelligence companies.
California is no longer slimming down the bill for weight loss drugs. The state joined several others in rolling back price reductions amid rising pharmaceutical costs and recent Medicaid cuts.
