Today’s newsletter is presented by the Ocean Beach Mainstreet Association.
Good morning, San Diego.
Feeling like the Fourth yet?
Yes, there’s a week to go before the official celebration of our nation’s independence, but there’s nothing wrong with getting into the spirit and hitting the streets early. Take Oceanside.
It’s tradition in the city just south of Camp Pendleton to get a jump on July 4th by hosting its Independence Parade before the big day. That’s this Saturday – see more in our Weekend Guide – should you want to join the party.
In that vein, let us offer a passage from the Declaration of Independence in which our Founding Fathers explained their desire to break free of England’s rule: “In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.”
Another reason to rejoice? San Diego FC, a brand-new team, is in first place and three players have been named to the league’s All-Star team. If soccer isn’t your game yet, maybe now is the time to try it.
