U.S. and coalition forces — including jets from the San Diego-based USS Carl Vinson — have conducted 15 airstrikes against ISIS terrorists in Syria and Iraq over the past 24 hours.

Defense Department officials reported the following strikes between 8 a.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday, local time, in the region:

Syria

  • Fighter aircraft conducted an airstrike near Kobani, which struck an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed an ISIS vehicle.

Iraq

  • Near Bayji, an airstrike struck an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed an ISIS fighting position.
  • Near Fallujah, an airstrike destroyed an ISIS excavator.
  • Near Mosul, three airstrikes struck two ISIS tactical units and destroyed two ISIS fighting positions, two ISIS vehicles, two ISIS heavy machine guns and an ISIS building.
  • Near Tal Afar, three airstrikes struck a largeISIS tactical unit, an ISIS storage facility, an ISIS fighting position and destroyed an ISIS building and an ISIS heavy machine gun.
  • Near Tikrit, six airstrikes struck six ISIS tactical units and destroyed an ISIS fighting position and an ISIS anti-aircraft artillery weapon.

Officials said all aircraft returned to base safely.

Airstrikes against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, also known as ISIS or ISIL, began in August.
