The National Weather Service office in San Diego is forecasting cooler temperatures and widespread rain continuing through the first part of the week.

“Cooler, wetter, and windier weather is expected through Tuesday,” the weather service said. “Areas of rain and mountain snow showers will develop later today, becoming more widespread Sunday afternoon into Monday.”

Rainfall of up to an inch is expected along the coast, with up to 1.5 inches in the mountains.

“Showers tonight into Sunday morning are expected to be mostly light to moderate in intensity,” the weather service said.

The snow level in the San Diego County mountains could fall as low as 4,000 feet on Sunday night.

Highs on Sunday will be 58 to 62 along the coast, around 60 in the western valleys, 50 to 55 near the foothills, 43 to 50 in the mountains and 61 to 65 in the deserts.

Dry and warmer weather is expected for the remainder of the work week, but another low-pressure system could bring rain next weekend.
