Father Joe’s Villages threw open its doors to additional homeless people in downtown San Diego Monday because of the cold and wet weather conditions.
The service agency began checking people in late Monday afternoon for an overnight stay at St. Vincent de Paul Village, 1501 Imperial Ave.
Those being admitted will receive a meal and a mat to sleep on. They’ll be discharged at 5 a.m. Tuesday, according to Father Joe’s Villages.
The organization already serves around 1,500 people daily, including more than 200 children and over 200 military veterans.
According to the National Weather Service, the chance of overnight rain in downtown San Diego is 90 percent before tailing off in the early morning hours of Tuesday. The forecast low temperature is 45 degrees.
