The number of COVID-positive patients in San Diego County hospitals has dropped to 225, down from 235 on Saturday, according to the latest state data out Sunday.

The number of those patients in intensive care stayed the same at 51. Available ICU beds increased by three to 209.

The latest numbers come two days after county health officials reported 569 new COVID-19 infections and eight additional deaths linked to the virus, which increased the cumulative totals to 743,853 cases and 5,108 deaths since the pandemic began.

The county does not report new cases or deaths on weekends.

The percentage of COVID-19 tests that returned positive in the past week decreased to 3% as of Friday, down from 3.6% on Tuesday. The county reports that data on Tuesdays and Fridays. An average of 14,394 tests were reported daily in the past week.
