Chula Vista police asked residents Monday for tips after a drive-by shooting into another vehicle claimed the life of a woman.

The Saturday evening shooting near Otay Ranch also left another man wounded. He remains hospitalized.

Both victims are from Chula Vista., Authorities are withholding the identity of the deceased victim until next-of-kin can be notified.

The surviving victim, 36, told investigators that he and his passenger had pulled to the curb in the 1300 block of Steiner Drive, near Higgins Street, when another vehicle came up alongside them. Someone then fired several rounds into their car. The male victim, though wounded multiple times, drove to the hospital. The woman, 28, was struck once.

Police had received several 911 calls alerting them to the shooting just before 8:50 p.m. Callers reported hearing from six to nine shots and the sound of two vehicles speeding away.

Officers learned of the victims after hospital personnel informed them that they were treating two people suffering from gunshot wounds.

Residents in the area of Paseo Ladera and Steiner are being asked to review footage from home security cameras and report any information they find that could be relevant to the investigation.

The motive and circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation.
