An apartment fire near Petco Park left one person suffering from smoke-inhalation trauma and tied up late-morning downtown traffic on Monday.

The fire was first reported on the second floor of a building in East Village at about 10:30 a.m., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

Crews were able to get the fire under control within roughly 10 minutes of arriving at the building in the 1200 block of Market Street, sand San Diego Fire Capt. Jason Shanley.

Paramedics took the victim, described only as an adult, to a hospital for treatment of apparently non-life-threatening respiratory trouble brought on by the smoke from the fire.

The cause of the fire, which left traffic lanes blocked in the immediate area through midday, was under investigation.
