SAN DIEGO – Just before he was going to stand trial for murder in an Ocean Beach incident, Andrew Phillip Restrepo pleaded guilty on Jan. 30 to voluntary manslaughter and also to injuring another victim, both in 2023.

Restrepo, 34, was to have stood trial on Feb. 2 for the death of Sean Glenn, 34. Restrepo punched Glenn so hard that he fell, hitting his head on the pavement in the 5000 block of Newport Avenue.

Glenn died in a coma three months later.

Restrepo also pleaded guilty to felony assault for punching another man on an MTS bus in the Midway area in April 2023.

Deputy District Attorney Jessica Sutterley said Restrepo will receive 11 years in prison for manslaughter, plus one year consecutively for the bus assault, for a total prison term of 12 years. A murder charge was dropped.

One witness at the April 9 preliminary hearing said Restrepo gave “a Superman punch” to Glenn on May 10, 2023, at 10:49 p.m. Sutterley said Restrepo has had training in martial arts.

Store surveillance cameras showed an ambulance appeared to take Glenn to a hospital. After Restrepo was arrested, his camera showed that he had taken photos of the ambulance that night and sent them to five people while he was across the street.

Restrepo was entering a pizza shop in Ocean Beach when Glenn accidentally brushed by him upon leaving. Restrepo took offense, and minutes later asked Glenn outside why he touched him, witnesses said. Glenn said he didn’t know what he was talking about and then was punched to the ground.

Restrepo was first arrested on Aug. 27, 2024. San Diego Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Fraser set sentencing for March 6.

Restrepo remains in jail without bail.
