A 42-year-old man was behind bars Thursday on suspicion of being drunk when he crashed head-on into another vehicle in North County, seriously injuring a young driver.
The collision took place at Cox Road and Mulberry Drive in San Marcos shortly before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Manuel Leon Villanueva was trying to pass a car, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, when the Nissan minivan he was driving sideswiped another vehicle and collided with an oncoming Lexus sedan.
Paramedics took the 22-year-old man at the wheel of the Lexus to a hospital with life-threatening trauma, Sgt. Jeremy Collis said.
Villanueva was treated for minor injuries before being booked into county jail in Vista on suspicion of reckless driving and DUI causing great bodily injury.
