At least one person is dead following a fire at a home in Oceanside early Monday morning.

Emergency crews first received reports of a house on fire at 2087 Wedgewood Dr. in Oceanside at about 3:37 Monday morning, according to Onscene.Media.

Firefighters arrived to find the second story of the home fully involved.

A body was also found in the home.

“The fire is being investigated as part of a suicide, but it was unclear how many occupants were inside the residence or if there were any other injuries,” Gina Avalos of the Oceanside Police Department told City News Service.

The man found dead in the residence appeared to have died from self-inflicted injuries unrelated to the fire, though his exact cause of death remains under investigation, according to police. His name was not released.

The home was reportedly the location of a SWAT standoff with an armed suspect at the back wall of the same home on Friday, according to Onscene.Media. At that point, officers left after negotiating with the suspect.

Officers had responded to several requests to check on the welfare of the possibly suicidal man in recent days, calls prompted by “reports of self- harm and mental-health concerns,” Avalos said.

“Oceanside police had prior contact with the individual related to concerns about his well-being,” she added. “Officers took steps to prioritize safety and provide appropriate assistance. The circumstances surrounding the fire and the individual’s death remain under active investigation.”

A battalion chief with the Oceanside Fire Department confirmed that the victim’s injuries were not related to the fire. His name and age were not immediately released.

Personnel from the OPD and the OFD remained on the scene Monday to determine the cause of the fire, police said.

No further details are available at this time.
