A 22-year-old man faces a murder charge for allegedly ramming a motorcyclist on Interstate 805 in Chula Vista, killing him, authorities said Wednesday.

Ulysses Jimenez of San Diego was heading south in a carpool lane when he rear-ended the 2025 BMW motorcycle with his 2023 Tesla Model Y near Telegraph Canyon Road at about 8 p.m. Monday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The motorcyclist, Jorge Uribe, 53, of Chula Vista, fell onto the roadway and died at the scene.

Following the collision, the Tesla struck a 2012 Ram 1500, the CHP reported. The driver of the pickup truck and his five passengers were transported to hospitals for treatment of minor to moderately serious injuries.

Jimenez allegedly fled the scene, but was arrested nearby a short time later.

The motive for the alleged vehicular assault remained under investigation Wednesday, CHP public-affairs Officer Jared Grieshaber said.
