Officials have identified a motorcyclist who died last Sunday in an early morning hit-and-run crash in Lakeside.

San Marcos resident Jordan Norman, 31, was riding north on SR-67 shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday when the driver of an oncoming SUV made a left turn against a red light at Willow Rd. directly in the path of the victim’s motorcycle.

The resulting collision left Norman with severe blunt-force injuries. He died at the scene.

Following the crash, the vehicle, a 1998 Mitsubishi SUV, veered off the street and crashed into a street-light pole, Lopez said. The unidentified man behind the wheel then got out of the vehicle and fled on foot, the California Highway Patrol said.

The investigation is continuing. The CHP declined to disclose whether a suspect in the case has been identified or arrested.
