
Law enforcement is asking for the public’s help as they investigate the stabbing death of a fire captain in Ramona.
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Rebecca Marodi, 49, and Cal Fire, in an afternoon statement posted on social media, confirmed that she had been with the agency for more than 30 years, working mostly in Riverside County, but also in San Diego County.
“The tragic loss of Captain Marodi is mourned by her family, friends, and her CAL FIRE family,” officials wrote.

In addition, a Facebook post by Riverside County Fire Department Station 68 in Menifee said, “With a heavy heart we mourn the passing of Fire Captain Becky Marodi.”
Sheriff’s officials said they got a call just before 9 p.m. Monday in the 20200 block of Rancho Villa Road about an assault with a deadly weapon at a local residence.
When they arrived, deputies found a Latina woman inside, suffering from multiple stab wounds. Despite efforts by Cal Fire paramedics, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Investigators suspect that the victim knew the perpetrator and are treating this case as a potential domestic violence incident,” said the sheriff’s department in a statement.
The statement added that sheriff’s investigators are unclear on the motivation and circumstances surrounding the homicide.

“We assure the public that we are using all available resources to thoroughly investigate and seek justice in this case,” officials said.
Earlier in the day, a Cal Fire representative who requested anonymity confirmed to City News Service that the victim was an employee of the state agency. NBC-7 and Fox-5 in San Diego also had reported that Marodi was a fire captain.
