A crash involving a truck and a Metropolitan Transit System trolley left 17 people injured Tuesday and shut down service going both north and south during rush hour in the South Bay.
Three of the patients suffered major trauma in the incident, which took place at around 4:34 p.m. on the Blue Line at Industrial Boulevard and L Street, according to the Chula Vista Fire Department.
The wreck resulted in a shutdown of service for “an indefinite period of time,” a CVFD official said.
L Street also was closed from Broadway to Interstate 5; authorities asked motorists to avoid the area until police gave the all clear.
Multiple units from Chula Vista and National City responded to the scene, along with MTS crews.
Trolley delays will last “until further notice,” according to MTS. Riders were advised to use Route 932 instead.
