A wildfire scorched dozens of open acres in the southeastern reaches of San Diego County Monday, forcing an evacuation of a back-country campground but causing no reported structural damage or injuries.
The blaze erupted about 10:30 a.m. near the intersection of Kitchen Creek Road and Old Highway 80, south of Interstate 8 in the Boulder Oaks area, according to Cleveland National Forest public affairs.
While firefighters worked to contain the flames, authorities evacuated Boulder Oaks Campground as a precaution.
As of 3 p.m., crews were making good progress toward subduing the blaze, which by then had spread over an estimated 43 acres, said Janice Tull, a dispatcher for Cleveland National Forest.
