One person was killed Monday when an SUV crashed on Interstate 5 near Mission Bay.
The northbound Toyota 4Runner veered out of control and overturned just south of Sea World Drive shortly before 1 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
It was not immediately clear if the victim died at the site of the crash or after being picked up for transport to a hospital.
The accident forced a closure of all northbound lanes on a stretch of I-5 just north of Interstate 8 and led to severe congestion in the heavily traveled area, the CHP advised.
