Authorities on Thursday publicly identified a 35-year-old man who was killed this week in a shooting near Manzanita Canyon.
Patrol personnel responding to reports of gunfire shortly after 11 a.m. Tuesday arrived to find a good Samaritan giving first aid to Cedrick Cruz of San Diego in the front yard of a home in the 3200 block of 40th Street in City Heights.
Officers took over the lifesaving attempts prior to the arrival of paramedics, who transported Cruz to a hospital. Doctors there pronounced him dead, San Diego police Lt. Jud Campbell said.
Witnesses told police the unidentified suspect, described as a teenage boy or young man in a blue hooded sweatshirt, ran to the north following the shooting.
“At this time information is very limited, but it appears there may (have been) some type of relationship between the (shooter) and the victim in this incident,” Campbell said Thursday afternoon. “However, the exact nature of that relationship has not been determined or confirmed at this time.”
