A judge on Thursday sentenced a Fallbrook woman who drove under the influence of drugs and killed a man in a head-on crash to seven years in state prison.

Suzanne Faulhaber, 48, pleaded guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated in connection with the 2020 crash that killed Martin Orozco, 55.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened at around 1:15 p.m. Aug. 24. Faulhaber’s Ford Mustang veered into opposing lanes of traffic on East Mission Road, west of Red Mountain Dam Drive in Fallbrook.

The defendant’s car struck Orozco’s pickup truck head-on, trapping both drivers.

Paramedics sent Orozco, also a Fallbrook resident, to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido. Doctors there pronounced him dead.

Faulhaber, who suffered serious injuries in the crash, was arrested and charged in November. Her charges included methamphetamine possession.
