Authorities Tuesday publicly identified a 40-year-old man found slain last week at Chollas Creek Open Space Park in the Ridgeview-Webster neighborhood.

The body of Alfred Reyes of San Diego was discovered in a grassy area alongside a trail at the open-space preserve about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to police.

The county Medical Examiner’s Office has classified the death of Reyes, whose upper body bore signs of suspicious injuries, as a homicide.

Officials have not disclosed the cause of the fatal wounds.

“It is still early in the investigation, and detectives have little information about the circumstances surrounding the death,” SDPD Lt. Andra Brown said.
