A man was injured Sunday near Montgomery-Waller Community Park after striking a palm tree at a high rate of speed.

The male driver was spotted going eastbound on Palm Avenue near Lanao Lane when he lost control and slammed on his brakes shortly before 11:30 a.m., according to OnScene.TV.

He crossed over both lanes of traffic and onto the center divider before hitting the tree, when he may have been ejected. His Honda coupe ended up back in traffic before stopping.

The driver’s injuries were moderate to major, San Diego police Sgt. Jeffrey Skiva told OnScene.

OnScene also reported that beer cans were found inside and outside the car.

Officers closed Palm between Beyer Boulevard and Lanao for the investigation.
