A 31-year-old man was killed and three people suffered minor injuries early Monday in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 805 in the North Park area.
The crash was reported around 12:50 a.m. on southbound Interstate 805 near El Cajon Boulevard, California Highway Patrol Officer Salvador Castro said.
The 31-year-old man was behind the wheel of a 2014 Kia sedan traveling southbound just past El Cajon Boulevard when he collided with a 2007 GMC box truck driven by a 56-year-old man, Castro said.
The Kia driver and the box truck driver got out of their vehicles and were walking in the highway lanes when a 2016 Mercedes-Benz sedan driven by a 28-year-old man struck the box truck and the Kia driver, the officer said.
The victim, whose name was withheld pending family notification, was pronounced dead at the scene, Castro said.
The box truck driver, the Mercedes driver and a 29-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the Mercedes, were all transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest for treatment of minor injuries, Castro said.
The crash shut down the three left lanes of southbound I-805 south near El Cajon Boulevard until around 6:30 a.m.
