A 5-year-old child hit by a car in San Marcos Thursday was conscious and breathing when taken to a hospital, a sheriff’s department lieutenant said.
The child was struck at 458 S. Rancho Santa Fe Road at 6:43 p.m., said Lt. Robert Smith of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
The driver stayed on scene, Smith said.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident in San Marcos.
