Alan Braynin, the former chief executive officer and founder of the nation’s largest travel nurse agency, died of cancer at 51 years old, the San Diego-based company announced Monday.
Aya Healthcare announced Braynin’s passing three days after the company publicized the appointment of a new CEO.
A company spokesperson stated Braynin was a “visionary leader, philanthropist and entrepreneur” whose “legacy of passion, brilliance and kindness will continue to impact all who knew him.”
Braynin founded Aya in 2001 — six years after graduating from the University of California, San Diego — with a vision to “transform healthcare staffing,” according to the company.
Under Braynin’s leadership, Aya became one of the world’s largest digital staffing platforms, connecting healthcare professionals directly to hospitals and healthcare systems.
The company announced the appointment of Emily Hazen as the new CEO.
“It’s an honor to build upon Aya Healthcare’s legacy,” Hazen said in a statement.
Hazen formerly worked in a dual position at Aya as the chief operations officer and executive vice president of process optimization.
