The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County was at its highest amount on Independence Day since 2014 Thursday despite the end of a six-day streak of increases.
The average price dropped three-tenths of a cent on Thursday to $3.762 after increasing six cents over the previous six days, including 1.6 cents Wednesday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. A 5.6-cent per gallon tax increase for road and mass transit programs went into effect Monday.
The average price is 5.7 cents more than one week ago and 10 cents higher than one year ago but 14.3 cents less than one month ago.
The streak of increases followed a run of 38 decreases in 39 days that dropped the average price to its lowest amount since April 4.
