A National City man was arrested on suspicion of robbing a bank in San Diego this weekend, the FBI announced Monday.
Oscar Esteban Valle, 27, was suspected of robbing a Clairemont Wells Fargo Bank branch office, 5522 Balboa Ave. around 1:40 p.m. Saturday, according to FBI Special Agent Darrell Foxworth.
The alleged bank robber demanded money from several bank tellers while keeping one of his hands in his sweatshirt pocket, as if he had a weapon, Foxworth said, adding that three tellers complied.
Valle then allegedly ran out of the bank and fled in a Nissan pickup that was parked near the business. San Diego police spotted the pickup a short time later and a roughly 10-minute chase ensued, Foxworth said. He added that during the pursuit, Valle’s vehicle hit a San Diego police vehicle near Sports Arena Boulevard and East Drive.
The chase continued until Valle struck another vehicle near Sports Arena Boulevard at Interstate 8, where he fled on foot and was arrested a short time later, Foxworth said.
Valle was booked into San Diego Central Jail in lieu of $2 million bail.
The alleged bank robber faces multiple charges, including robbery and evading police, Foxworth said.
