Rep. Scott Peters led 42 of his colleagues in the House in calling on Speaker John Boehner to abandon plans for an early recess.

“Instead of sending Congress home for seven weeks of campaigning, Speaker Boehner should allow us to do the legislative work that our constituents expect and deserve,” Peters said after sending a letter Thursday to the speaker.

The letter, drafted by Peters and signed by 42 other House members, outlined nine issues from immigration reform to funding for wildfire protection that Peters and his colleagues say deserve a vote before Congress adjourns.

“The number of important and urgent matters that require action from Congress is growing by the day. Instead of a seven-week district work period, I urge you to allow the House to remain in session so that we can tackle critical legislation…”

Peters, a Democrat, represents the 52nd District, which covers much of central San Diego County including Poway, Coronado and large portions of the City of San Diego.
