A 57-year-old man standing on the railroad tracks was struck and killed Tuesday evening by an Amtrak train in Encinitas.
The collision occurred about 7:50 p.m. on the railroad tracks at mile post marker 238.4 near East J Street when the man walked into the middle of the tracks and was struck by a southbound train traveling at approximately 57 mph, according to Deputy T. Eikermann of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
The man was struck by the train and pronounced dead at the scene, Eikermann said.
The name of the victim was not released pending notification of relatives.
