A passenger train struck and killed a pedestrian Friday afternoon in Del Mar.
The Coaster train hit the 62-year-old man while traveling to the north at about 50 mph in the area of Eighth Street and Stratford Court shortly before 1:30 p.m., according to San Diego County sheriff’s officials.
The victim, whose name was not immediately available, died at the scene, said Deputy Brian Abraham.
The fatality forced a several-hour halt to rail service through the area.
