A strong Pacific storm system making its way toward San Diego is expected to bring rain and dangerous surf conditions later this week.
The National Weather Service issued a Beach Hazards Statement Sunday night, warning of high surf and strong rip currents across the area Tuesday afternoon through Friday evening.
Swells are expected to reach 6-10 feet along San Diego County beaches, with peak surf heights expected Friday.
The storm will bring an “increased risk of drowning due to elevated surf and strong rip currents. Sneaker waves and other hazards can create life-threatening conditions in the surf zone,” the NWS warned.
A chance of rain is forecast late Wednesday, with rain likely by Thursday night and a chance of showers Friday. Some areas could see up to 2-3 inches of rain, according to the NWS.
Temperatures along the coast are expected to be normal, with daytime highs in the upper 60s, dropping to the upper 50s overnight. Mountain
The storm is expected to clear over the weekend.
