It seems almost unfair for San Diego Christian to play at USD on Thursday night. The Toreros opened with a 34-4 run en route to a lopsided win over the Hawks at Jenny Craig Pavillion.
San Diego Christian (1-3) got on the scoreboard first with a 3-pointer from Nick Crankshaw at the start of the game but didn’t score again until the 9:39 mark in the first half. Between that time, Tyler Williams and Olin Carter III had six treys between them.
Both Carter and Williams finished the night with 5-of-8 3-pointers made. Carter led the Toreros with 21 points and Williams added 17 points.
At one point USD (3-1) was leading by as many as 50 points. Thursday’s 95 points were the most for the Toreros since they beat Bethesda, 105-89, on Dec. 17, 2016.
Jose Martinez had a career-high 15 points with a 58 shooting percentage and Isaiah Pineiro added 12. Also scoring in the double digits was Yauhen Massalski.
Up next, the Toreros will host the Buffaloes at 7 p.m. Tuesday. In their last meeting, USD defeated Colorado, 69-59, in Boulder.
