This weekend thousands of San Diegans say “thank you” to the men and women who served. Here’s your guide to the annual parade downtown as well as other weekend events around town.
San Diego Asian Film Festival
On the heels of the surprise hit of the summer, “Crazy Rich Asians,” the San Diego Asian Film Festival returns this weekend for the 19th year.
This year, the festival showcases 160 films from more than 20 countries in five locations, from Balboa Park to Mira Mesa. The films range from Asian pop to zombies to a mystery martial arts movie.
The San Diego Asian Film Festival runs from Nov. 8-17 at various locations, including San Diego Natural History Museum, UC San Diego, Digital Gym Cinema in El Cajon, Edwards Cinemas in Mira Mesa, and the Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park. Screening times and tickets vary.
Del Mar Fall Racing Festival
Get your hats ready, the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club is opening the tracks for the Fall Racing Festival.
The season kicks off at 11:30 a.m. Friday with Opening Day festivities. Opening weekend festivities continue through Veterans Day on Monday.
The festivities include delicious food and beverages, College Day for students on Saturday where students get free racetrack admission with valid student ID, a free reggae-rock concert from Pepper, also on Saturday, and a Veterans Day celebration on Monday where admission will be free for active-duty military and veterans with valid military ID cards.
Del Mar Fall Racing Festival goes through Monday. Tracks open at 11 a.m. each day with the first post at 12:30 p.m. Admission is $6 or $30 for the concerts after the last post of the day.
San Diego Veterans Day Parade
Join the thousands of San Diegans on Saturday as they salute the men and women who served our country at the annual San Diego Veterans Day Parade.
More than 4,000 Veterans, Active Military, Bands, Floats and Civic Groups are expected to be in the parade, which starts at the Waterfront Park on North Harbor Drive and ends at the B Street Pier.
The Veterans Day Parade starts at 11 a.m. and ends around 1 p.m. Spectators can watch the parade anywhere on the entire route.
Coronado Island Film Festival
Coronado’s enduring love for Hollywood started when the historic Hotel del Coronado first opened its doors and that love continues today.
The Coronado Island Film Festival features more than 100 film-related events throughout the holiday weekend, including screenings, parties, live performances, panel discussions and culinary cinema. “Some Like It Hot,” starring Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis, and filmed at the Hotel Del will be the closing night film.
The festival goes from Friday through Monday. Screening times vary. Passes range from $10 to $595.
Beer Garden
It wouldn’t a proper weekend without the ubiquitous beer festival in San Diego. This event is the closer for San Diego Beer Week.
The Beer Garden brings together 28 of the best of San Diego breweries and pairs them with 14 local chefs for a unique food and beer pairing event that celebrates the craft beer movement.
Held at the Arroyo Terrace of the Lodge at Torrey Pines, Beer Garden goes from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. Tickets $85 and include unlimited tasters of beer and food.
