A gun-toting thief robbed a Webster-area discount store Tuesday, despite a clerk’s daring attempt to disarm him.
The bandit confronted the employee at Ya Ya 99 Cent & Up in the 4700 block of Federal Boulevard, brandished a handgun and demanded money about 12:40 p.m., according to San Diego police.
“The employee, thinking the gun was fake, grabbed (it) and tried to wrestle it away,” Officer Sarah Foster said. “The (robber then) reached into the register with his free hand and took an unknown amount of money.”
After scooping up a handful of currency, the thief ran out of the business, got into a dark-green Chevrolet truck and sped off, Foster said.
No description of the robber was immediately available.
