Six years after the California Coastal Commission voted unanimously to approve the 535-acre Chula Vista Bayfront Master Plan, which promises extensive development along the region’s coastline, the Port of San Diego and City of Chula Vista are asking residents and stakeholders to share their ideas on how two parks slated within the vast project should be designed.
A design workshop at the City of Chula Vista Public Library is being held Thursday at 6 p.m. to get public feedback on how the future Harbor Park and Sweetwater Park should be built, according to the Port of San Diego. Per the Port’s website, the new parks will account for more than half of the 100-acre park space planned for the Bayfront project.
“The Port and the City of Chula Vista are committed to an inclusive and open outreach process through which community members can share their vision for these important park spaces and continue to help shape the future of the Chula Vista Bayfront,” the website reads.
Although Thursday’s meeting is focused on the parks’ design, the public can also learn more about overall project plans that include hotel, restaurant and retail development, as well as plans for mixed-use commercial construction.
