A 28-year-old man was stabbed and his 66-year-old companion was also wounded when they were attacked by a large group of suspected gang members under a Logan Heights bridge.

The confrontation occurred around 11:30 Monday night at the homeless encampment underneath the Interstate 5 overpass in the 1800 block of Commercial Street, San Diego Police Officer John Buttle said. The 28-year-old and 66-year-old victims were sitting under the bridge when they were approached by a group of 10 men who told them to leave.

“The victims refused and a fight broke out,” Buttle said. “During the fight an unknown suspect stabbed the 28-year-old victim.”

After the assailants fled, both the victims were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the fight, Buttle said. Detectives from the San Diego Police Department gang unit were sent to investigate the attack.
