The Trump Administration is expected to sue California over its sanctuary laws, a move which Gov. Jerry Brown immediately characterized as a “sad” political stunt.
“At a time of unprecedented political turmoil, Jeff Sessions has come to California to further divide and polarize America. Jeff, these political stunts may be the norm in Washington, but they don’t work here. SAD!!!” Brown said in a statement Tuesday evening.
The attorney general is expected to announce the lawsuit at the 26th Annual Law Enforcement Legislative Day in Sacramento on Wednesday.
The suit aims to block three sanctuary laws that the California legislature passed last year in response to the Trump administration’s stepped-up immigration enforcement.
Sessions and President Trump have been highly critical of California’s sanctuary cities, and Sessions has said he would like to cut funding for those with sanctuary policies.
