A man riding a motorcycle was killed Monday night when a suspected drunken driver ran a red light and crashed into the motorcycle in the Linda Vista area of San Diego.

The collision occurred about 6:45 p.m. at the intersection of Genesee Avenue and Linda Visa Road, according to San Diego Police Officer Robert Heims.

According to Heims, a 26-year-old man driving a Nissan Altima was stopped at a red light in the turn lane when he suddenly drove through the red light, made a left turn on Linda Vista Road and collided with a man riding a Honda motorcycle, Heims said.

The motorcyclist ended up under the car and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, Heims said. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Anthony Garibaldo, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, Heims said.

The investigation remained ongoing. Anyone with information on this crash was asked to call San Diego Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. All tips can be made anonymously.
