Former Vice President Al Gore will speak to students Thursday via webcast as part of UC San Diego’s John Muir College’s 50th anniversary.
UCSD is one of several colleges around the country participating in live Q&A sessions with Gore and screening of his new film, “An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power.” Released July 28, the film is a sequel to 2006’s “An Inconvenient Truth,” in which filmmaker Davis Guggenheim followed Gore as he toured the world speaking about the dangers of climate change.
The sequel examines climate change since the first film’s release in 2006.
The one-time presidential nominee has dedicated his career to advocating for policy solutions to climate change and training affected communities to be their own advocates.
In 2007, the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Gore and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which included two dozen Scripps Institution of Oceanography scientists including Veerabhadran Ramanathan, the current director of the Center for Atmospheric Sciences.
Gore brought “An Inconvenient Truth” to the campus for a special screening in 2007 where more than 4,000 audience members cheered him on as he spoke about the ethical implications of not acting on climate change.
The Gore webcast is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at UCSD’s Price Center Theatre.
