Clear sky and warm weather were all that was needed for San Diegans to enjoy the nation’s 238th birthday.
Throughout the county, people were out enjoying community barbecues and parades, but residents in Mira Mesa also have another reason to celebrate. This year marks the community’s 45th birthday, a milestone that qualifies it for the National Register of Historical Places.
To celebrate, the Mira Mesa Town Council announced the Fourth of July parade’s grand marshals would be longtime residents Jorge and Hilda Rosales. The Rosales moved to Mira Mesa in March 1970 just a few months after Mira Mesa officially became a community of the city of San Diego, according to the organizers.
Founded in 1969, Mira Mesa has grown into one of San Diego’s largest and most diverse communities, with a large Asian Pacific Islander population.
The Mira Mesa Fourth of July parade reflected that with many entries from the various API groups that call Mira Mesa home.
The parade is one of the largest in the city, according to organizers.
