The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is going pink during the month of October to bring public attention to the fight against breast cancer.

Deputies have the option of wearing a pink version of their uniform patch as part of a nationwide campaign that now includes more than 180 participating law enforcement agencies, according to a sheriff’s department statement.

The #PinkPatchProject started with the Seal Beach Police Department in Orange County in 2013, and 2017 marks the first year that the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department has taken part, according to the statement.

“No county funds were used to purchase pink patches,” the statement continued. “Deputies donated their money to get the patches for their uniforms.”

The commemorative patches are available to the public for $10 dollars each during business hours at the Deputy Sheriff’s Association store located at 13881 Danielson Street in Poway. Money raised will be donated toward cancer research, according to the statement. Call (858) 486-9009 for more information.
