Fleet Week San Diego will begin its 2017 celebration with what it expects to be the largest tailgate part for military families in the country.

Approximately 1,000 active duty military from the Navy, Marines and Coast Guard and their families will be hosted at the Qualcomm Stadium practice field starting at 3 p.m. before the opening game of the San Diego State University football season.

“This year’s military family tailgate party is definitely the biggest tailgate party that Fleet Week San Diego has ever undertaken, and we know of no other military tailgate party like it in the country” said Bryan Smylie, president of the San Diego Fleet Week Foundation.

This annual event brings together military families for a free afternoon of food, music and football.

Lincoln Military Housing is the major sponsor of the day’s activities and Navy Federal Credit Union is providing the complimentary tickets to the game for the service members and their families.

The annual fleet week parade of ships and other events take place in October.
