How did dogs and cats become pets? Why aren’t other animals pets? Why do humans eat certain animals? An exhibit at the Museum of Man explores the relationship between humans and animals.
“Living with Animals” takes visitors on a journey of more than 15,000 years when humans began sharing their meals with wolves.
“There’s opportunity and challenges in tackling a topic like animals, but we’ve created an exhibit that feels fresh both in its whimsical, vibrant design and in its non-traditional approach to storytelling,” said exhibit developer Sarah Crawford. “Living with Animals looks at the animals we encounter every day in our lives and homes—our beloved pets, the pests crawling through our walls, and the side of bacon we put on our plates—and asks how we decide which of these categories they belong in.”
The Museum focuses on creating an immersive, exploratory experience that encourages visitors to think about how they interact with animals, even beyond the exhibit’s walls.

Lafayette Pool Party
The Lafayette Hotel is partnering with Coronado Brewing Company to present a Suds Social Pool Party. Taking place on Sunday, Coronado Brewing Company will be at The Lafayette’s infamous Weissmuller Pool to host one of the greatest pool parties of the summer. Entrance to this event is 21-plus with a $15 pre-sale entrance fee which includes one beer. Entrance at the door is $20. Grab your friends and head over to The Lafayette to enjoy some of San Diego’s finest beer while soaking up the end of summer.
Stone Brewing 21st Anniversary
Escondido’s Stone Brewing Company is celebrating its 21st anniversary this weekend. The craft brewery is hosting a beer festival at Cal State San Marcos, featuring more than 100 beers from 50 breweries. Guests will also receive a commemorative 21st anniversary tasting glass. The event is $55 per person.
Salsa at the Old Globe
Want to lean how to salsa dance? Head over to the Old Globe this Saturday. From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Salsa World Champion Carlos Jaimes Noriega, moving to the beat of DJ Melao (aka Patrick Hernandez) will host a free dance class. The family-friendly event will also feature local artist Nadia Guevara who will offer brief group dance lessons in salsa, bachata, and combined styles
SoCal Etsy Guild Market
Are you a fan of all things crafty, artsy and creative? The SoCal Etsy Guild Market will take place Saturday at Horton Plaza Park. Shop goods, everything from shirts to jewelry to home goods, from local crafters at the beautiful downtown park. The free event will also include live art and music.
